It was while sitting in Columbia University's Roone Arledge Auditorium during Naach Nation II that the idea first hit Piyali Bhattacharya.  As she watched the many South Asian dance teams performing on the stage in front of her, Piyali began to wonder why it was that Bryn Mawr College, the school at which she had just begun her freshman year, had no South Asian dance team of any kind, given the number of talented dancers at the school.  And so it was that Bryn Mawr Mayuri was formed...

Founded in the spring of 2004 by Piyali Bhattacharya and Gayatri Deodhar, Bryn Mawr Mayuri is Bryn Mawr College's first and only South Asian fusion dance team.  The team's scintillating mixes of South Asian and Western dance styles to modern, unique music, all combined with Mayuri's rigorous audition process, attention to detail and hours of practice make the team a definite force to be reckoned with.

Acknowledged to be a talented, up-and-coming group by Go Philly! Magazine, Mayuri has performed at a number of different schools, including Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, Columbia University, Temple University, and the University of Pennsylvania.  The team has also received invitations to perform at Harvard University, Yale University, Swarthmore College, Villanova University, and Princeton University, along with invitations to audition for Dhamaka 2006, PhillyFest 2006 and the Guest Act position for Penn Masala's Annual Show.

Bryn Mawr Mayuri is extremely grateful to all of its past performance sponsors, and looks forward to continued success in the future!
